5 Creative Ways To Customise Your Festival Bag

There’s no limit to the artistic possibilities of personalising your festival bag. Your bag art can be as simple as adding an initial or symbol, or as involved as creating a detailed design that completely transforms your bag.

Tip: Your Eastpak bag should be a clean canvas to work with. Follow our steps to clean your Eastpak bag before adding any designs or custom features.

Here are some fun and effective ways to reinvent women's or men's festival bags at home.

1. Add a pop of colour with fabric paints

Fabric paints are an excellent choice to inject personality into your festival bag. From polka dots to graffiti tags, the possibilities are endless.

(Tip: Opt for wash-resistant fabric paints to prevent your design from fading when you wash your bag or if it gets caught in the rain.)

Use masking tape or painter's tape to cover the areas you don't want the paint to land on, such as the zippers, Eastpak logo and straps, for example. Once you've selected your fabric paints, use brushes or sponges to create your chosen design. Leave your personalised bag to dry for at least 24 hours.

To set your design, place a piece of baking paper over it and run a hot iron over the top of the paper. Leave your bag to dry before touching or using it.

2. Draw and doodle with fabric pens

Want to make your design look a little more freehand? Fabric pens and markers are a great way to let your creativity run wild. Grab a few markers in colours that will show up on your bag.

(Tip: If your bag is a darker colour, opt for metallic or neon markers. If your bag is a lighter colour, pick darker, brighter colours that will show up on the design).

Then, place a piece of paper or cardboard on the inside of the bag so the ink doesn't bleed through. Draw your design using the fabric pens and leave it to dry for a while. Set your design by placing a clean cloth over it, and run over it with a hot iron to set the ink.

Alternatively, hold a hair dryer around 6 inches from the design and direct hot air towards it for several minutes. Leave it to cool before using it or taking it to a festival.

3. Show your style with pins and patches

Pins and patches make fun additions to any Eastpak backpack. Find a pin or patch related to your favourite hobbies, bands or sports teams. Or, choose a design that supports a cause you believe in.

Pins are the quickest and easiest way to create a custom look. You can add, move and remove them as you like by hooking them onto the fabric part of your bag.

Patches come in both sew-on styles and iron-on designs. For sew-on patches, you'll need a needle and thread. Place the patch in an area of your choice, and use a pin to secure it while you sew. Sew the edges of the patch on your bag with a simple stitch. Secure the stitching with a knot and cut the thread for a tidy finish.

You can attach an iron-on patch with the appropriate adhesive to your bag in minutes. Place the patch on the fabric surface and cover it with baking paper or a thin cloth. Use an iron to apply heat, and leave the patch to cool off.

4. Accessorise with key chains

Key chains are a quick and flexible way to upgrade your festival bum bag, backpack or other style. Find a key chain you love, from cute plushy characters to beaded charms, and use the metal loop or clip to attach it to your bag's zipper.

(Tip: Avoid adding too many key chains or heavy attachments to your bag as it may weigh your bag down or damage the zipper).

5. Leave your personal mark with a monogram

The best part about owning an Eastpak festival bag is that it's all yours! Add a monogram design to make your bag unique and personal to you. Fans of the 2025 monogram trend include celebrities like Hailey Bieber, who sports her married name on a large canvas tote.

To achieve this look, use fabric paints, pens or patches to place your initials, name or nickname on your bag. You'll stand out from the crowd and never lose your bag again!

Customise Your Design With Confidence 

Is it your first time customising a bag? Perhaps you’ve done it before, but could do with a refresher. Don’t stress. If you’re worried about messing up your dream design, we have some helpful tips for you.  

Use a pencil, chalk or fabric pencil to sketch out your design before using any fabric pens or paints. This way, you can ensure you are happy with the design before making it a permanent addition to your bag.  

Not ready to commit to any lifelong design decisions? Add personal touches to your bag with pins and key chains so you can remove or change them whenever you want to.
